WT:social is a new platform made by the founder of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales. Aimed more at news-sharing than blogging, I opened 2 subwikis regarding Inkscape, "inkscapers" and "inkscape wonders": the first for artist and their portfolios, the second for lessons about inkscape. Still in development, I think it is going to be interesting, and most importantly, serious. Posts can be edited by everyone on the group, so it is focused on quality rather than quantity. Hoping it will stay free, if your're curious to join here are the links:

    "inkscapers"

I would prefer so see one post for every artist, with description on what they do and a link to portfolios or website. This way we can make a catalog of Inkscape artists, as a mean to sponsor them (and Inkscape itself).

    Good luck with it RM.

I'm still not interested in social media - not until I see it has learned some maturity.

It would be helpful if visitors could see something without registering.  How can I know what kind of a site it is, if I have to register before I can see anything?  I'm afraid that's an impossible "sale" for me.

I can see the reasons for the lack of trust. As for me, I rather act now and see how things turns out, rather than wait; afterall they're building the foundations and it is now that people can shape it as they wish: the intentions are there.

I like seeing us enter any and all new platforms. Especially ones made by our friends such as the people behind wikimedia who have done so much to keep Inkscape alive. I have a lot of time for them and this is a good way for us to open up a new location.

Roberto, will you be managing this new platform for us? And if so will you be on the vector's channel on chat.inkscape.org to push news out?

Oh, I'm totally happy to spread the word on Inkscape.  It's just a personal choice not to sign up for something that I can't see first.  Even with Wikipedia behind it -- that's just me.  (I'm sure Facebook claimed to be perfectly safe, when it first opened, and we see what happened there....)

Maybe somewhere down the road they will find a way to show people what it's about?  Or maybe they will do away with the registration?  You don't have to reg to see Wikipedia.

    But anyway, again:  Good Luck!

I can't promise to handle the page as my time is limited and won't always be present (at times I'm offline for weeks) but I will do what I can to spread news related to Inkscape. Also, the fact that I opened the subjects doesn't, in their own words, give me super-powers; I'm a common member just like everyone else. And that really gives power to the whole group of people rather than a few selected.

I can't say how it'll turns out; just trying stuff.

Don't worry about privilages Roberto. The job of babysitting a platform is mostly about /caring/ enough to show up and post stuff when needed. Even if you don't have any extra account or privs beyond just being a normal user. this is more about being a super collaborator on the Inkscape side of things. 😀
