I am getting a strange squaring off of the edges of my object, see attached sceenshot and offending SVG.  What am I doing wrong?

That is caused be a too small filter area. Open the filter editor and find the setting what sounds like „Auto region“ and either turn it off or increase the area manually at its properties.

Thanks Polygon - I've never used filters so I'd never have found that!  I have no idea how or why that got added but you saved me a ton of stress thank you.  Screenshot of the offending filter "Gaussian Blur"???... right-click "Remove" did the trick!
