Think of the magnifyer glass, but with vector graphics. It should look the same as if you'd just zoom into a part of the page, take a screenshot and put that probably rotated and scaled back into the drawing.
It's eminently achievable. Select the "bunch of objects". Create a group [Object > Group] or [ctrl+g]. Create a clone [Edit > Clone > Create Clone] or [alt+d]. Transform the clone by stretching, rotating or reflecting it. Any changes made to the original group will be seen in the clone too.
