Beginners' Questions Removing strokes of multiple triangles from a square

    Hello,

I have drawn 4 triangles and a square, and aligned them. I've then increased the strength of the strokes to a point that I would like to now subtract from the square behind. I just can't figure out how. I tried division, cut path, difference, but it keeps giving me shapes I dont want.

The end product that I'm seeking is to have the 13 shapes that are formed in the intersections as separate paths.

THanks in advance for your help

I´d draw the 4 triangles in 1 single black stroke for a clean result - convert with Path->Stroke to Path - then with square go Path->Difference:

    1. Select one black path, right clic > select same > stroke : this will select all triangles.
    2. Do path > stroke to path then path > union. Now you have one black filled shape with no stroke that will be used to transform the rectangle into what you need.
    3. Select rectangle and black shape, do path > difference. The result is a complex brown filled shape : select it and do path > break apart to get the different individual paths.

Edit : sorry for this double answer.
