Hello my friends, Why is it and how can I correct the fact that every time I try to create a line using the bezier it appears blank with no color at all. I haven't been able to draw a line or curve in red color. Thank you for your help

Check your display mode. Outline mode? Should be Normal mode.

    👍

Opacity is 0, change to 100. Also disable fill if just want a line.

I'm extremely sorry to bother you but still no luck. Perhaps uninstalling and reinstalling the software might help?.

I couldn't find RESET PREFRENCES in my Inkscape version which is 0.92. Perhaps I have to install a neweer version?

  16. #16
    Tyler Durden Tyler Durden @TylerDurden

Absolutely update. It will look different, but we can make it look like .92

I decided to install the 1.2 version and I finally solved the problem.

One last issue, how can I turn black to white background? I couldn't find how to do it.

    Thanks.

Please update to 1.4.2 instead of 1.2. You will have much better tools and get better support.

Hello my friends. Good morning if you are in America both north and south. I finally decided to change the Inkscape version and now finally I can draw my model aircraft balsa parts for laser cutting. I have encountered two issues that need your help, please check the attached screen-print. a) How can I change the black  appearance? I prefer white because I can more clearly read all captions and drawings and b) you can see that the identification of the model's rudder is R-3 Upon trying to draw it, I need it black and also the lines of the letters are too thick and not readable. If I solve these problems I will finally continue to prepare my model kits. By the way, check the web page of my company www.aeromodelosbritannia.com. Thanks a lot to all EDUARDO

The letters are thick because you have a Stroke color (red) rather than a black Fill color.

Interesting. Your company designed these balsa models?  What software was used to design these?

I ask because it seems every day I am amazed at how many different ways people use Inkscape.

    🆒

Hello COD, sorry lor late reply. No, I don't design the kits.  Some models are used from very old designs of kits no longer made and with no copyright issues. Some are modified by myself and adapted to our peculiar Colombian modelers needs.  What I do is adapt the plans, sometimes modify structures and obviously translate all  captions into Spanish. I also build and fly prototypes. Whenever I need to redraw any section of plans I use Photoshop. I prefer to draw using bitmaps because it is much more easy, and "human" perhaps because I've been handling Ps for several years now,. I use inskcape only for drawing and preparing all parts that will be cut with my CO2 laser machine. I have found software like Inkscape and Coreldraw are much more cumbersome to handle than bitmap software like Photoshop, Gimp or Photopea. I also like to repaint liveries on card static scale models also with Photoshop.

Thanks a lot and best wishes. By the way, today is our Colombian independence holiday.

Hello Tyler Durden. After some time exploring how to change red to black color on the letters and make them with a finer trace,, I couldn't find how to do it. I appreciate your help.

    Eduardo -

When I went to your website, instant smile on my face because it brought back fond memories of my father and uncle. When they were teenagers they built models similar to these. These models were very popular in that time period. As adults, my father ended up with a private pilots license and my uncle ended up being an engineer. No doubt it was from this experience as teenagers. When my father finally retired - that was the first hobby he went back to. 🤣

Inkscape vs Photoshop. Learning new software is always difficult.  It takes time to learn the new and to unlearn the old. It is even more difficult to change if you are running a business. Time is money. If you invest the time to watch Youtube tutorials - you will be happy that you switched.

    Hi Eduardo,

The tutorials in Inkscape's help menu are fast and easy. They cover many of the essentials like Fill and Stroke.

Thanks Tyler, We also commemorate the first lunar landing. I remember it very well. I was 23 that year and Colombia (with an "o")  was one of the few countries that had the direct TV signal. I'll consult the tutorials as per your suggestion and thanks again for your kindness.

I remember the first lunar landing. I was 10 yrs old (and my recollection is that I watched it at school, but a Sunday landing would mean I must have been at home).

All I wanted to be at that time was an astronaut... from Mercury to Apollo, I followed them all. But only Air Force pilots could be US astronauts, and my need for glasses to see clearly ruled me out. :-(

Forgive my misspelling of Colombia, I should know better. But we can also celebrate Columbia, the command module on Apollo 11.  ;-)

Hello Tyler, the misspelling of Colombia in the US is quite understandable.  You have one of the the best universities of the world called "Columbia" Your city capital is not on any particular state but on a special land called "District of Columbia", There is a fantastic music and record company that invented the LP records in 1948 and a TV and radio channel called CBS Columbia Broadcast System and several other issues that can easily make any American to misspell our country. In Spanish, Colombia is a direct name derived from Christopher Columbus which in Italian is "Colombo".

And although you are quite correct that the best way of learning Inkscape is with tutorials I have an emergency right now. I'm preparing a production run of the Junior 60 model and I want to know why when I use ctr k to combine a drawing I get black inserts .

I also want you to tell me how to add captions so that when I open the drawing for laser cutting using RDWorks software, these letters disappear and I have to write them all over again wasting a lot of time.

Thanks for your help, my friend.

The large objects have a black fill... I'd turn off (unassign) the fill using the red x at the left end of the palette. The fill can appear after combine operation if the top object (closest to you) has a fill.

e.g. If you have an object with no fill, and you combine it with text added in front that has a fill, The combined path will have a fill.

I suggest do not combine the text with the line objects. A combined object (it becomes one path) can only have one style, it cannot have a fill on only specific sub-paths. You can combine with text, if you don't mind having outline text (no fill).

To keep the text when exporting to other software, it's common to use menu: Path>object to path.

Hello Tyler, Once again, problems. I tried today to draw with the bezier as I always do a part for a model airplane I have to cut and I again get no color on the lines no matter what changes I make.  Just transparency. Is there a way that I can keep all my preferences every time I open the software to do a job without having to establish them every time I want to vectorize a part or parts. Thanks and sorry for bothering you so much.

    Hi Eduardo,

There are a few places to check for 100% opacity:

    • Fill color A channel slider (Fill/Stroke panel)
    • Stroke color A channel slider (Fill/Stroke panel)
    • Object opacity slider at bottom of Fill/Stroke panel
    • Layer blend mode button
    • Status bar opacity control
    • Groups can also have transparency
