just downloaded the newest version 1.2.1 on my mac (10.14.6 system), trying to learn how toย use, was a previous illustrator user (old,ย old version)
My left tool bar looks different than all the ones I've searched online for. I am missing the top solid selection solid arrow tool. (not my curser arrow.. that is there)
I've re-installed the Inkscape app again but no difference. Any insights are appreciated. thx!
As @Mendy says, It's probably disabled in preferences. You can also grab this tool with shortcut "S".
If you are a previous Illustrator user, you could be interested by the shortcut settings in Preferences > Interface > Keyboard. There's an option to use Illustrator shortcut map instead default Inkscape.

UM22.04 1.2
Possibly in Preferences
In image note both are dark, if you click on one it turns light and removes from toolbar.
