I have this design that need to be able to blend the colours.

If you have a look at the jpeg you can see the transition of the cloured leafs.

I need to blend the colours on the band next to it, matching the leaf colours as they progress.

I haven't been able to see exactly how to do it.

You can use a gradient fill with as many color stops as you wish. Check out Fill and Stroke panel for the rectangle:
