I've moved this to the finished art forum, since it will get more attention here, and it's not an official Inkscape.org project.
It looks like you are directing users to place the pack in the Inkscape installation directories. If you direct users to put the pack in their user profile (Win: ../Users/username/appdata/roaming/inkscape/symbols LinuxMint: ../home/username/.config/inkscape/symbols), it won't get clobbered when they next update Inkscape.
