When i making horse logo( by following tutorial), i want to make the eye part using object that has stroke with it, but when i edit using Path > Stroke to Path, the object become group and after that, i further edit using Path > Break Apart and Path > Union. But there is notification in below part saying " One of the object is not path, it cannot perform boolean operation", because of that i can't make the eye part using the object.
I make object rectangle and circle, in the object description rectangle is called "rec", but the circle one is called "path".Isn't that weird the circle object is called path?
What i want to ask is why is this happening? ( sorry for long question, i just want to know why this can be happening)
I´m under the impression you are trying to confuse Inkscape. 😉
1. Just draw a triangle with the Bèziertool (4 clicks to close the shape) and either give it a stroke or a fill - not both and don´t do Path->Stroke to Path and Path->Break Apart which will generate 3 objects (open "rect2593" in objects browser). Then select head shape+triangle and go Path->Difference - done.
2. Not so here: it´s labeled correctly "Ellipse" while Circle/Node tool is active and "Circle" when Select tool is active. It will be labeled "Path" after Path->Object to Path or it´s shortcut.
I am not trying to confuse Inkscape forum, i just want to ask these question, because these two are kinda related even though it is different case, and i found them at same time.. By the way, I have checked by making new object like star and polygon, they to have name "path" without me changing them to path. I am really confused right now.
Why now, all object beside rectangle have become "Path"? I thought i didn't changed the setting that related to path or something
2. If you place the Objects dialog and the XML editor side by side and compare the results while you draw, you should be able to see what's happening in real time (in current version 1.2, Windows).
In earlier versions of Inkscape you may have to close and reopen the dialog in order to display the updated result correctly when editing.
The naming of the objects in Status Bar isn´t correct on your side and you didn´t tell your OS and Inkscape version. I´d recommend 1.2 as a fresh install or first try Inkscape->Preference->System->Reset Preferences and restart Inkscape and check if the false labelling persists.
@Aero i have make rectangle and circle objects ( the circle,of course, have a name " Path" on it), i have saved it. When i open it again, the name " Path" on circle didn't change into " Circle" Or something like that. Is this bug?
I don't know, it is written in my computer properties.. Is the new version of inkscape more stable than previous versions because i am afraid , the new one has bug too.
I want to install the official version, but i don't know what this means, and what i should do about it? ( sorry about the watermark part, i don't know how to get rid of it)
Sorry about that, i just confuse why the size portable needed is so big.... Now, to the installed part, what should i choose out of 3 option cause i don't understand what is system PATH, and i don't want my installation to be corrupted by it.
As far as I know, this has always been the case. I was referring to the Status bar which really will tell what you have on the plate. In Objects browser it depends on what you like to have as a name - it´s just a placeholder imho.
@TylerDurden hmm i see, so Status Bar is showing progress of our object, right?
@Aero I make it as you instructed... and it worked, when i reopened my file after i save it, but after that i make new Ellipse object, and its name become "Path". I think by changing the file type to Optimized.svg, the object within file will become normal again. So,must i save the file again to Optimized.svg, and each time, i encounter these "Path" do the same again and again?
The Status bar displays various information, including object type, tool options and more.
The object labels are for user convenience. I would not be concerned about the labels.
With regard to the original issue: following older tutorials may not have expected results due to changes in program behavior.
e.g. Using Stroke-to-path will create a group, if a fill color is also present. The group will contain a path with the original fill and a filled path that was previously the stroke.
With regard to PATH when installing Inkscape in Windows: adding the entry to the PATH in Windows will help launch Inkscape by clicking on a filename in Windows Explorer, and help other programs to find Inkscape.
I advise against saving as Plain or Optimized svg, unless another program requires a spartan file.
The Inkscape information being removed in plain or optimized is very helpful to retain guides, export formats, layers, etc. Best to save as Inkscape SVG.
I have 2 problems about object and path:
What i want to ask is why is this happening? ( sorry for long question, i just want to know why this can be happening)
Here is the GIF of both case

@Polygon Inkscape version 1.1.2, Windows os : Windows 8.1 , 32 bit os, 64x based processor
Is this enough, or you may need more information maybe?
If you duplicate the circle, do you get a different name?
Yes, i do. Why that can be happening?
Just some Inkscape weirdness I guess. 😅
Why you´re using a 32bit version on 64bit processor? Not saying it´s the culprit for the glitch.
I don't know, it is written in my computer properties.. Is the new version of inkscape more stable than previous versions because i am afraid , the new one has bug too.
No bug free software exists. Have tried to reset Inkscape Preferences already?
If you want to test the new version 1.2 in a safe way, and use both versions at the same time, I recommend Portable Inkscape.
Just remember to start the Portable version before starting the installed version if you want to compare them side by side.
https://portableapps.com/
Inkscape 1.2 - Windows : 32-bit : portable app | Inkscape
Why Inkscape Portable need so much? it says it need 477.7 MB in my Drive C. I though its size would be same as Inkscape from official website.
I want to install the official version, but i don't know what this means, and what i should do about it? ( sorry about the watermark part, i don't know how to get rid of it)
Don´t mix download size with instalment size.
Sorry about that, i just confuse why the size portable needed is so big.... Now, to the installed part, what should i choose out of 3 option cause i don't understand what is system PATH, and i don't want my installation to be corrupted by it.
I´m on macOS exclusively. No idea what´s up on Windows+Linux.
Okay guys, so i have already testing both Inkscape version and here is my result
The top one is Inkscape Portable Version
The bottom one is Inkscape Installed Version
Still, the Ellipse object called Path in screenshot

Same here, only the duplicate is labeled circle.
So it doesn't matter if its name is " Path" or not in object panel , as long as the status bar show what the object's real name is, right?
Should i report it as bug then?
The Status bar will indicate the object type: shape, path, group, etc.
The Objects dialog (panel) shows the object's "Label" which is generated automatically, but can be changed to anything you like.
Save a copy..., as Optimized.svg is possible if you want those labels (id's) rewritten.
Labels are not id.
The label can be changed in the Objects dialog by double-clicking.
The id and label can be changed in the Object Properties dialog.

You can change it as you like after creating new objects.
Note, "ID" is SVG code, "Label" is Inkscape editor code, and is lost when saving as plain or optimized SVG.

The object labels are for user convenience. I would not be concerned about the labels.

Oh ok... Thank you for all information all of you guys give me ( i am sorry if my question making such long coments).
