There is both a Layers view and a Group view. What is the intend use difference between them?
I've mainly used the layers view, but I realize I probably want the group view instead. It has the option to toggle a group between a group and a layer.
Why would I want to use only the Layers view?
Layers are an Inkscape trick using tagged groups, because the SVG file format does not actually have layers.
The Objects dialog evolved later than the Layers, and its functionality continues to improve.Β
I use the Layers dialog for its minimal level of detail; and the Objects dialog can slow performance.
