I create a rectangle 300px x 300px. I select Extension/'Visualise Path/Dimension. Result: Dimension arrows above and left I select Edit Path and the upper arrow, then Extension/'Visualise Path/Measure Path. Result: "300.00px"

If I further decrease the rectangle width the number denoting the length disappears completely.
How can I get the complete text, even if it is wider than the mesured line?
Why not use Path->Path Effects...->"Measure Segments" which is interactive - means you can scale the rectangle and the measurements will update accordingly:
