Kinda new to inkscape, and im sorry if this is a simple fix, but its baffling me!
So, created an image and clip mask VIA inkscape for the floor of a model carriage. Pretty straight forward, located the image on the print area, and hit print - came out perfectly.
Went on to create other parts to the build - the walls and such, but now when i print, all i get is a plain piece of paper. Exporting it as a PDF shows a blank page too.
I have tried printing each of the images individually, and it seems that only the very top corner is being printed.
From the outline view it looks quite right. With 148MB in size it's a tough one. Unfortunately I have no clue how to help - However, I would aim for a less memory-intensive solution with clones instead of duplicates for instance.
Go into your document properties and turn off the page border.
On your new bottom layer, create a rectangle and convert it. [ Shift Control C ]
The size of the rectangle needs to be big enough to encompass all of your drawing. It could be a full 8.5 x 11 if you want. You could make a series of these "backers."
Put your images on these backers as you want.
Lock all of the layers above the backer layer after your work is done and you are ready for output. Otherwise, work with the backer layer locked. Keep it visible if you want to know where its limits are.
Click within the space of a backer. This should select it and nothing else.
Export
Selection
When the prompt asks how many pixels - multiply size X your desired output size. eg 11 inches X 600 dpi = 6600 pixels. The DPI request is irrelevant as you are exporting an image that you can resize in another program at will - not printing.
Name and export.
Pull your image into a publisher like Libre Office Draw. Create your page by dropping your new PNG onto the page and scaling the image to fit your page or have the size you want.
I did end up exporting it and using the in built windows photo app to print it without issue.
As for Polygon's reply - im not sure whats going on. I have the option to print to PDF, but it only shows a blank document (Interestingly, if i try print directly, it prints a blank page)
However, if i use the Export function to export it as a PNG, then use a 3rd party program to print it, it seems fine!
Bit of a weird quirk to an otherwise powerful program
Hi there, When I print off the item I made on inkscape the words are coming out blurry when I have them on the color background I want, but once i take the background away they come out just fine. I am printing them right off of inkscape. Do you have any solutions for this? Anything would be appreciated.
In most cases, I save a copy as PDF and print the PDF.
The only way i can save it as a PDF is to use the export function; If i use the 'Print to PDF' function, it ends up blank. However, i havent tried 'Save as'. I would imagine this is the same as the 'Export as' function

This could be a few things - Contrasting colours, print issues (IE is your printer capable of printing to that quality?)
Considering each aspect prints ok by themselves, try changing the colours of the back ground or text.
As suggested earlier in this thread, Inkscape seems to have issues printing directly, so try exporting the image as a PNG and printing it via a 3rd party application.
Just for future reference though, its not considered good manners to hijack an unrelated thread. Try searching the forums and see if someone has had a similar issue, or start your own thread ♥
@Maple_river_farms It sounds like you placed your background layer over your text layer.? Does your background have any kind of reduced opacity - maybe 50%? If so, put it on a layer beneath a different layer for your text. Export - don't print. Use 3rd party to print your exported image.
When I put my words on my layered layout they are blurry once printed out. I have printed them off of inkscape, exported them, and turned it into a pdf.
Even when I put the words next to everything else they are coming up blurry. But when I print just the words they come out perfect. My blur is set at 0%.
Hello All, I found it because indeed had the same problem, the mess is made by the mask, InkScape seems to keep the mask layers or parts all the time and the printing function even PDF seems cant rocognize it, there could be other solution but what I did was release the mask, set inverts the mask untill having the original object and modify it independently with no mask, so the image was printed ok.
hope it at least helps you to get ride it and dont go on spendng time on it

I did consider this, so i tried printing each individual part on its own, but still no joy
(Try printing to PDF - its a blank sheet)
For reference, heres a save with only one conponent

No printer at hand right now - but the printer driver let me print to file: output.pdf and this works. Not sure about your printer as I´m on macOS.
Never print out of Inkscape.
Create a new layer. Put it below everything.
Go into your document properties and turn off the page border.

@Maple_river_farms,
Please share an example Inkscape svg file.
NB There is no "export pdf", there is "Save a copy as..." where pdf is an option. The resulting pdf can be printed from a pdf reader.Edit
As of version 1.0+, export pdf is an option.
Hi, i seem to have solution to your problem.
After you hit file>print, you should find tab rendering and change rendering on backend to bitmap.
I'll add screenshot in few hours
