First of, huge thanks to this piece of free software!

I am using inkscape from time to time and was looking for some added functionality wich the last version has.

I downloaded the latest version for Linux (for my ubuntu computer), and opened it.

In attachment file you can see where it goes wrong, the menu's don't work properly, and when I want to save the file, either when using the menu or hotkeys, the program shuts down without saving.

Any tips? I downloaded it twice, rebooted etc.. but no success.

    Thanks! BM

What method did you use to download and install?
Did you uninstall the previous version?

I downloaded the linux version from this page:

    https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.0/

I did not uninstall the previous version, I'm afraid I will lose it if things go wrong.

Can I install older inkscape versions incase I want to uninstall my normal-working version?

There are four ways to install on linux, which one did you use?

I tried the appimage, but the other CLI method as well (4th if I recall correctly). I also uninstalled my older version this time before trying it again.

Either way, it is solved now, not on my ubuntu, but I downloaded it on my windows 10 and I just switch to Win 10 if I need to use inkscape.

I appreciate the support. Let me know if you need more info regarding the bug / error, I will help where I can.

Have a look at this page regarding Development level support including reporting bugs. This forum is more concerned with Inkscape usage support AFAIK.

But let me offer some suggestions that may get you out of this pickle:

From my experience on Ubuntu I'd suggest booting a live distribution and installing Inkscape in the same way as before. If it runs there is probably a problem with a dependency. In plain language some software Inkscape depends on has been corrupted on your Ubuntu installation, possibly by something you (or software you installed) recently changed on your machine.

Inkscape like other apps on Ubuntu relies on Python among other things. Sometimes things you do on Ubuntu like installing software can mess up your Ubuntu subsystem. I recall having driver issues for months after installing a linux version of a popular Video editor that was rather built for very specific Linux distributions and poorly documented. Equally if you've been writing Python scripts without using Virtual Environments it could be an underlying cause of issues with Ubuntu apps.

You could also try to run Inkscape from terminal. This will give you more clues as to what has gone wrong. If you can't make heads or tails of it, you'll at least have more clues for your bug report.

Unless you can trace exactly what has gone wrong you'd be better off starting with a fresh install of Ubuntu if the live disk has solved your issue.
