Beginners' Questions NODE TOOL TOO BIG

Hello, I have used Inkscape before, so I'm familiar with the basics, but in the meanwhile I uninstalled it. For a new project, I have downloaded the latest version (1.4.2.), but when I try to use the node tool, the node at the end of the selector is so huge I can't edit the nodes of the paths because it blocks the view, which never happened before for me. How can I make it the same size as the regular nodes or at least small enough to see what I'm editing?
    All help appreciated!

Before proceeding further, I would reset the preferences:ย https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/getting-back-to-square-one-and-starting-over-its-easy/

Hey, thank you so much! I followed the instructions you laid out, but the problem persists unfortunately :-(

Next, In preferences, I'd check the handle size.

Hey, thank you for the quick answer. Even when I change the handle size to 1 it remains huge. Also, the big node is always there when I float the pointer over a linear segment, even if i don't click to add a node.

    Fascinating, Captain...

Not seen this before.ย  Maybe the cursor scaling in broken?ย  See image below.

Are any OS screen scaling tools in use?
