Simple enough question - I want to be able to move grouped objects without using transforms; i.e. each vector, in each object, in each group is adjusted, rather than using a transform property attached to a styling.  Is there any way of turning this feature on or off?

If the Preferences are set to Transforms=optimized, I'd move, ungroup (causing the objects to update), then regroup if needed.

I see, so the ungroup and regroup would do it so long as Transform = Optimised?

Alternatively, enter the the group [double-click], select all [ctrl+a], and move.

Both are pretty messy to be honest, but I'll go with Tyler's option.
