I had two Inkscape installed 0.925 and version 1.(portable) The Kaspersky security soft showed Inkscape up date and by mistake I clicked for update. It updated my 0.925 version which had my favorite color pallets and some extensions. When I realized my mistake it was already late.
I wonder if it is possible to roll back from version 1 to previous state so I can use my pallets and extensions?
Hi Nihon94, Are you working with Windows? You can make a copy of your favourite palettes and extensions, just to be sure. Do you remember where you have installed them? A palette is a .gpl file and an extension has .inx, and .py files. They can be in the user's directory, or maybe in the installation directory.
In the preferences menu (Ctrl+Shift+P) > System you find the locations. - For instance, my user preferences are under C:\Users\Kirsten\AppData\Roaming\inkscape - My installation files are in C:\Program Files\Inkscape\share.
Normally, if you install a new Inkscape, you get the question if you want to keep your preferences. The installed files in the user's directory will stay there, unless you tell Inkscape to delete them during the install process. But if you have installed the palettes and extensions in the installation directory, they will be deleted.
That is why I said it is safer to make copies of your favourite files before you start re-installing.
Kirstie thank you very much for the easy to follow reply.
I do have backup of palette and extensions. My OS is Windows 10 (Japanese) you are right about the user preference location.
When the Inkscape was updated it did not ask if I want to keep my preferences.
Anyway this is what happened : I got one portable version 1 of Inkscape. My 0.925 was also updated to version 1.Β I re-installed 0.925 and after reading your answer I found out that the version 0.925 got my color palette and the extension I wanted. After confirming I deleted the updated version.
Once again I appreciated your easy to follow reply. It is really very helpful.
So glad that you could reinstall Inkscape 0.92.5 and found the favourite items again! I have several portable versions of Inkscape. There are always things that work better in older or newer Inkscape versions.
In my data I always keep a backup of favourite extensions, with my own notes in a small textfile, so it is easier in the future for myself to understand them. Now you too understand where Inkscape looks for files. Next time Kaspersky is too quick, you do not have to fear it anymore!
