I want to create a tessellation of this image, so I need just the boundaries of the drawing and for it to be hollow...after I've tidied it all so that it looks smooth!

Is it an easy process? All suggestions welcome.

    Thanks ,

You can try your luck with File->New from Template…->Other=Seamless Pattern:

Thanks for your help, but I want them to fit together like an M. C. Escher design...I've done a more straightforward one with a paper cutout and drawn round it so that the images fit together like a jigsaw almost...

I imagine I will need to trace around my shape, and make it into an irregular polygon shape and then copy and paste it so that they fit together?

I don't know how to do it, apart from labouriously digitizing the entire image?

    Thanks again for your help

I'd suggest you to take a look at this interesting video.

You'll need to redraw your pattern with bezier tool. Some hints if you are a beginner there

Excellent! That's exactly the thing that I needed...here's what I've managed to do with card and paper and scissors etc....but it'll be much better done digitally.

Thanks very much for your help,

That looks great thanks...and I can see Alfred Hitchcock in there...I've attached my hand-drawn version, but I'm following the YouTube video to be able to use InkScape's abilities to do it all
