Beginners' Questions Creating Keychains, Path outset not working

Hey guys, i recently bought a 45w Muse Laser engraver, I'm watching tutorials on YouTube on how to cut and create key chains with either acrylic or wood.

Tutorial has me typingย two names (say her name isย Cherry), i copy paste and create a second name, I'm asked to click on the second name and choose Path, then outset. (Creating a thicker background of the name).. But...nothing happens.

In the tutorial, her second name is thicker and darker, (that being the background of the key chain).

When i do it, nothing happens. I've uninstalled Inkscape and reinstalled, but still same prob. Any help be appreciated.ย

    Thank you.ย

Are you using Inkscape v1.0? If so, there are known regressions in its automatic conversion of text to a path (e.g. for outsetting). See this thread for details:

This is also the topic of my next tutorial in Full Circle Magazine, which goes into a little more detail, and will be available for free download early next month.

I forgot that 1.0 was also clobbering the text outset.ย ๐Ÿ˜’
