You can draw objects, but can you combine them into a scene?

While we know we are going to get some stunning artwork, we also want to encourage beginners. If you are new to Inkscape, feel free to keep it simple.

Multiple entries are welcome, and please do stick around for the chat!

All abilities are invited to get involved. The complexity of your entry is down to you.

• To submit your artwork, scroll to the bottom of the page and while logged in, click the paperclip (bottom-left) to upload your image, add a description in the text box (optional) and click "Submit Reply".

I started this the day @pacer pre-announced the December challenge. It's my recreation of a poster for an Icelandic series that I'm really enjoying 😉

@mrks9 Another awesome piece with a dramatic colour scheme! I can feel the harsh cold from here!

Thanks @pacer By the way, I found a little program that reduces the weight of images with hardly any loss of quality that can be useful for uploading things to this forum. This last one went from 2.1 mb to 592 kb and I don't notice any difference 😊  https://github.com/meowtec/Imagine/releases

@pacer Looks great! Amazing Details! Is this really all done in Inkscape or a mix of traditional media with shading in Inkscape? If not how did you achieve the fine details?

A drawing I did a while ago, added snow for the ocassion and animated with inka.

@imv2 It looks nice. As a suggestion, maybe I would have added a snowy ground with the fox shadow and some snow on the body. Thanks for sharing 👍

@mrks9 I mean those areas like the cloudy details in the mountains. It looks a lot like ink or even pencil with all those little noisy dots. How did you do that!??😀😲

This time I tried to create a whole scene like mentioned in the challenge description. I didnt want to focus too much on details so I decided to use an abstract style. This allowed me to try different shadow and light forms rather quickly. Havent drawn any image in this style yet but soon I felt it matched my idea. While drawing I also didnt pay much attention to layers to keep the flow.
To create distance I experimented with values and leaving out details where possible.

@mako-gfx Beautiful! I would say less abstract, more impressionist as your shapes have meaning. Reducing the value in the distance is effective. Good use of colour also. Thanks for a wonderful entry!

Some ideas:

Maybe just the way I do it... I usually darken objects in the distance as the light has further to travel.

No object can be brighter than the light source, so, in this case if it is the sky (diffused light through the clouds), I would make the sky brighter than the land and I would blur objects in the distance such as far off mountains and clouds.

Or, to be arty, blur the foreground and keep the far off mountain in focus..

Great composition though. Awesome entry.

@mrks9 I like it. Its more like a collage-style I think. Sure you could implement more plasticity but I think its not necessary. Its just no realistic approach. I like it☺

I like that main petrol colour. 🎨 The bear looks very sad. That moves me and fits the melting snow/ice - topic perfectly.

Thanks, @pacer I always have these problems with shadows and highlights and plane separation, especially in such flat images. What I usually try for objects in the distance, rather than playing with the light, I usually desaturate the colors. I've blurred the background a bit and added a gradient from more to less light from the light source, in this case from left to right. I don't know if it has added anything to the image 😊

Thanks, @imv2 @mako-gfx I hope the bear hasn't moved 😄 I would say that rather than sad, he is tired and retiring to rest. But you are right, it can also be seen as sadness because of the defrosting and the loss of its habitat.

@mrks9 Wow! Nice usage of Distortion-Effect! This picture again tells an interesting story but is still open to interpret in many ways. The colour and slight dust on the ground of the water area really creates an interesting water-mood🎨. It reminds me of looking at the ground-tiles of a swimming pool. Regarding the inner circle/bubble I dont know how to interpret it. Is the fisherman trapt in it? However the shiny surface of the bubble matches the water-theme. The snow is the only thing looking wrong. Snow doesnt bend around forms. It is falling from above and is, like everything, affected by gravity. So it is either piling up or sliding of narrowed surfaces🙃 Another nice detail are the thin lines making the water feel more icy or frosty. Great picture👍

Thanks, @mako-gfx  Let's see how I explain the image. The igloo reflection tries to integrate the upper part with the lower part, only that it becomes a kind of cage for the mermaid, who sees how in the distance the Orca and her calf swim free. This explains the small size of these. So the part of the same blue color that shares the area of the mermaid and the Orcas would represent at the same time the Ocean and the frame of the window where the mermaid is. It would be a kind of visual game. As for the snow, you're right, it's not realistic, I just liked how it looked aesthetically.

As usual, I am impressed by all who have submitted entries in these challenges.

For me, "Scene" was the challenge word in this month's effort. Going beyond clipart level invokes "artistic" skills I still don't feel I have, but today, the opportunity arrived to make this minimalist effort. Thanks for the challenge.

The more I look, the more I see. The Bézier curve is a nice touch.

Also, your igloo scene is very interesting. You have some great ideas. Very stylistic.

Oh, no, @Pacer there is no off-putting. I'm glad to explore at the edges. I'm just being honest with myself about the level of my work. I love the encouragement and comments the group offers back and forth. When I can get an image which evokes the challenge concept, I'm happy.

Not so original and not difficult to draw but was it is challenging is to have a white igloo on snow and to see it :-) even if the snow looks more like frosting on a cake.

Anyway, would welcome any feedback what program and process to use instead of inkscape for parametric designing similar images. 

Is that only blender with custom add-ons, enermous postwork for a cinematic appearance or 

some magic with touch designer instead? 

Would be using unity more fitting for these?

@Lazur Your 'mountainscape(s)' look like a watercolour. Cold and lonely looking, but well made. Thank you.

Adding as an attachment should do it (where dragging and dropping bypasses the gallery), it seems to be listing the items in a peculiar order (not sure if this is by design?).

@Pacer this design was done on a live stream and I exported three different designs from the same source image. This was the third one.
