Overnight all my pictures, regardless of file extension and origin, open with large red X on the entire surface. I have done the Restoro repair scan; it failed to reveal an issue there. (My other program, such as Paint.net, Gimp, display images correctly.) What could be the reason and how to fix this issue?

I'd check that Menu: View>Display Mode> is set to Normal, not Outlines.
