Beyond the Basics 1.4 palette display, rulers

    Hello,

When I read that 1.4 is supposed to be "where accessibility and customization reign" I downloaded it, hoping that I would finally be able to upgrade from 0.92.3. But I see that the customization which was lost after 0.92.3 still has not been replaced. So much for that.

The 2nd problem is that the palette at the bottom has changed. And I can't find the controls to change it back to the way I like it. It seems they have at least been moved, and I hope not removed.

I did find a bug where someone apparently was miffed about blank space at the end of the palette (omg) which was the reason for the change. But I still would like to change it back. I'd rather have blank space at the end of the palette than blank space between each and every color chip. Also, I like the thin black line between color chips.

Please tell me if it is possible to change how the palette is displayed, and if so, how.

Also, my rulers are blacked out, but only within the page border. I have no idea what the practical purpose is for this. But I can't seem to find any way to get rid of it. How can I make the rulers entirely visible?

    Thank you very much.

The configuration menu for the workspace palette is at the bottom of the hamburger menu where the palettes are listed.

I noticed that on my Linux Mint machine, the borders between chips could not be reduced to zero. The can be on my Win 10 machine.

In Win and Linux, black borders don't seem to be an option in that menu.

Please share a screenshot of the rulers issue.

I should say this is on Windows 7. I just ordered a new computer, where I'm switching to Linux. So maybe that will solve this problem.

Versions 1.3 and up require at least Windows 8.1.

    I'm sticking at 1.3.2 for now. https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/issues/5324

Aah, I see. I suppose it was too much to hope, that Inkscape would remain backward compatible forever. I just thought I'd try 1.4 while I was waiting for my new computer to be delivered. But it will be here soon enough, and then I'll try it.

    Thanks again for your help!

Just in case. The "dimension bar" or whatever it´s called should look like so:
