If draw intersecting shape and press "X" or the shape builder icon, the window changes to the standard shape builer window but the shapes are already edited. For example, if I draw two intersecting circles and hit the shape builder icon, the shape builder opens showing one circle with a half moon removed. If I exit the shape builder the window is closed and my original drawing is there.
What am I doing wrong or is this a revision quirk waiting for a fix?
This is what I do. Draw parent shapes and activate the shape builder tool. The shape builder windo open but the parent shapes are already modified in that window. As I said in my initial message, if I draw two overlapping circles, the new window opens with one circle with the overlapping half moon shape removed. I've uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times but the same thing happens.

Did you select what you want and hit "return"?
Draw your parent shapes. Select them. Then activate the shape builder tool [x].

Can you upload such an example file with your parent shapes please?
