@CassidyRoth have you looked on YouTube for a tutorial? If you have, can you show us what you are having a difficult time with, to better help with your question.
Yes I have looked on Youtube the whole week but could not really find anything.
I have a jpeg image. I want to cut out a text word. This means that the picture will stay the same but the only difference is that the text inside the jpeg image must be removed so I can see through it. It is very the same when you put text in a shape and you click 'Difference' for the text to be removed. I cannot do the same with a jpeg image for some reason.
I basically only want the text that I type, to be removed from the jpeg image.
Bitmap images use the Clip function instead of difference etc.
Clip is under Object>Clip>Set
Clip does not work with Text or Groups I believe. It has to be a path ( or combined path )
In the attached file :
1. Text - does not clip
2. Text converted to path using Path>Object to Path - it is group by default so does not work
3. Ungrouped version of 2. works but letters are separate
4. Letters in 3. combined using Path>Combine - works
5. Rectangle drawn, then Object>path , then placed around 4. and combined with 4 using Path>Combine - then use Path>Exclude to create the clipping Path
-- 5. is required because Object>Clip>Set Inverse does not work for me.
If I add a jpeg image, then I can add text to it. I can then select on both the image and the text, then go to Object > Clip > Set. This will image but the image will now be shaped like the text. (the text will look like the image)
What I want to do is the opposite. I want the full image to remain as it is, but the text must be cut out of the jpeg image so that the text part of the jpeg image will be transparent.

Have a go at trying to clip them all.
Maybe you will understand me better this way:

In the SVG posted above , Example 5 will do this. Its just that the rectangle is not the same size as the whole image.
I've made a full size one.
