New document. All drawing tools working fine until I use the pencil tool, whereafter drawing tools leave no mark, just ghost bounding boxes. Have twice reinstalled Inkscape to no effect. ..Can't find any reference to this problem elsewhere.Any ideas?
Good of you to reply Pixelpest. After some combination of enabling/disabling, the pencil tool in Shape:None mode now works fine and doesn't disturb the other drawing tools. In other modes (Shape:Triangle in, Ellipse etc) the results are still invisible but the other tools subsequently work normally. Great improvement therefore. Thanks

Make a double-click on the pencil-tool´s icon to see what is enabled at least and adjust its setting accordingly:

When there's nothing to see check the color for stroke+fill - maybe it's unset or white or transparent.
