I am new to Inkscape and this forum, and in advance sorry in case this question has been answered before.
Iam trying to delete overlapping lines. I made a short video to show you the issue - After moving the dot into the i I want to combine them, so the laser doesnt cut along the crossection. My understanding is that the CTRL++ option should achieve this but in this case it doesnt.
Also, do your lines have strokes, fills? Can you share your svg file in addition to the video you mentioned?
I asked to gain more details, in a desire to help, if I or others can. Knowing what you are starting with, the steps being used, and the outcome wanted informs everyone so they know better just how to assist.
I guess the issue is that the text is not a path... So in my case the text is shown as object text, and If I create a path from that text, it is not possible to combine CTRL++ it with the background layer any more
1) after inserting the text, the background layer and the text are 2 different ?objects? on level 1.
2) I converted the contour (text, which was not a path until now) to path CTRL+ALT+C
3) (this was my missing step) The newly created paths (of the text) have to be moved from the text group to the level 1, so that the background layer is on the same level as the paths of the texts
4) then I could move the dot, and after it CTRL++ and the result is as expected

Maybe there is a simple option to achieve this?
I'm looking forward to your reply ;-)

Where is the video?

damn, I had input a yt link, hang on

I am not sure in what state you want the svg file - before I combine the 2 paths or after?
I would Union the dots to the text first (using Path>Break Apart, then move the dots, then Path>Union), after that, Path>Union the text to the rest.
Split Path would probably be better than Break Apart in this case, so that the hole in the S isn't separated too,
I guess the issue is that the text is not a path... So in my case the text is shown as object text, and If I create a path from that text, it is not possible to combine CTRL++ it with the background layer any more
I found out how to do it.
