The Patterns included with Inkscape are defined in the file patterns/patterns.svg located in the Inkscape “share” directory. Edit or replace this file to include your own stock Patterns.
That's unfortunate. Most of the other share directories have overriding siblings in the user profile, but that one is still waiting an update.
best workaround I can think of is to save the file as a template, so it can be opened repeatedly with the pattern intact. You could make it the default, if needed.
Are they supposed to save for future use or just while I'm working with an active file?
I have created the object, saved the file, object to pattern, and saved the file again.
I see it after I've done the above but when I reopen Inkscape it is not there.

Hi Tyler, my patterns are in share/inkscape/paint/patterns.svg I do not have administration rights to the folder modify the file or add to the folder.

That's a bummer. Any idea when that might happen?
