Hi there! I am currently using Inkscape and a plotter for different projects and am looking to expand on how I currently create some projects. I'm wondering if anybody has some experience or ideas to help me out. :) As the subject line states, I am looking to accomplish that workflow. I am in the midst of testing different android apps. So far, I can export them from the drawing app as an SVG, but when I import them to Inkscape, they are not single line svgs and so they plot as outlines(which I do not want!). :) This seems like an issue with the app and it having an option to create single line svgs when drawing with a stylus. To manually fix this afterwards in Inkscape is way too tedious(I think, unless somebody has a remedy?). So I'm wondering if anybody has some ideas?
I did try another method to accomplish what I want: I mirrored my PC screen to my tablet and used the tablet to draw(with pencil tool) in Inkscape what I'd like, but it's a bit laggy and I find Inkscape, even with the mouse on the actual PC, doesn't draw lines fluently. I can get sort of close, but I'd rather a smoother/easier setup.
Hope I described the situation properly. Thanks in advance!
Unless you want to try to use the CentreLine Trace option in Path>Trace Bitmap then you would need to find an app which draws lines as single svg paths, instead of 'Tramlines'
There is an Android app called PainterSVG which does this, however this is not a recommendation - I've only used it a couple of times.
I use the reMarkable tablet for drawing single line SVGs and there I need to select a specific drawing tool (fine liner) to make it generate single lines, not outline. If you are lucky that might be the case for those apps too, different behaviour for different tools. Another "if you are lucky"-option might me the remove duplicate lines extension, but I doubt it will work well as it will need the line segments of the out-lines to be quite similar. If you provide an example file I could look into it.
The reMarkable tablet was another option of mine. How do you find using it for single line and exporting/saving to SVG? Is it very accurate with no smoothing(or has the option to be)? I literally need a device for this unique use only... so my options look like reMarkable, a tablet(ios or android) that has a good app for single line SVG, or a upgrade my phone to a Galaxy S22 Ultra w/ stylus using an android app for single line SVG.
Thanks so much! I will check that out now. This may be the route I want to take considering what I am looking for. Basically exactly what you are doing; capturing handwriting in single line SVG format. Funny how awkward it can be to accomplish this!
Oh, one more question before I buy a reMarkable... lol do you know of any android app or even pc program(because you can do pc to tablet screen doubling and use a stylus) that accurately captures drawn/written input? I have Inkscape, obviously, and also Adobe Illustrator. Both aren't very great with their pencil tools(with mouse input or screen shared to tablet stylus) for single line paths because of how they are programmed. But if any PC program can do it properly and I can accomplish this on a tablet with screen sharing I might like that more than just reMarkable. Again, thank you!

As with all apps use at your own risk.
Here is an example file created with the app.
I've tried centerline with handwriting before and it doesn't work very well. I'll look into PainterSVG :) Thanks!

Here I have summed my findings on reMarkable using single line and SVG.

Inkscape can work very well to capture handwriting with a pencil tool, if you adjust the smoothing values to your taste.
