Using Inkscape with Cutters/Plotters Connecting lines to create an object from a dxf file

End Game: Cut this file on my Cricut Maker!

What I have done: I drew the shapes (most are 4 lines, think curving long rectangles) I want to cut in CAD, converted the dxf file into an svg. Opened it in Inkscape and it looks great. When I open it in Circut design space all I get is all the different lines.(as I expected to get).

What I want to do: I want to combine each shape (my lines) into a solid (or at least connected) shape.

What I have tried: I used the node tool and selected all four lines, then "object to path", then union. I got a totally different shape.

Any suggestions would be great. In my mind I am just trying to take the shape I drew and make a solid from it.

    Thank you,

The common term is "closed path", to describe line/arc segments continuously connected at their endpoints, where the last endpoint is connected to the first. http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Paths.html

Frequently, a number of paths or segments that have endpoints in the same location as other paths can be joined by selecting all the nodes and using the node-tool button to join selected ends. (Shift+J).

Others users are encouraged to add more details.
