I have gone through the manual several times. Is there new instructional information to learn more about the tools and how to use them? Trying to figure out how to make realistic looking chrome. I have played around with gradients a lot. Doing the button exercise helped me learn a few things. Should I look at that exercise more closely?

Hi. I did a Google search - videos - for "inkscape chrome" and found the following link. (There are several other videos/material). Also do a similar search for "inkscape metallic effects" and "silver", "gold", etc. to see various methods ... usually involving linear gradients.

OldSchoolCowboy - there are many good tutorials here in the forum under the "Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials" section.

There are two comprehensive tutorial series about Inkscape that are very detailed and up to date; one is tool/function indexed (the FullCircle Inkscape series by Xav) and the other is 'project' based (exploring all the tools needed to complete a project) ( Roy Torley's Inkscape Tutorial).

    Xav's Inkscape Tutorials Index :  http://www.peppertop.com/blog/?p=1563

Check this link in the Tips/Tricks/Tutorials section of the Inkscape Forum: https://inkscape.org/forums/tutorials/inkscape-tutorials-in-full-circle-magazine/

Roy Torleys Inkscape Tutorial Home:  https://roy-torley.github.io/Inkscape_Tutorial/Inkscape_Tutorial_Contents.html

Specifically for 'chrome' you may want to check out and experiment with Filters. I recall that there are several tutorials on creating a chrome effect but maybe they are not in the Inkscape Forum.
