Beginners' Questions why pdf import cause text to be all weird?

First, there's the very odd front substitution which manages to get everything extremely wrong and won't allow changes (Oh inkscape, why you think Arial should be replaced with a monospaced font called hack serif monospaced?)

then, ignoring that, the fonts import with the weirdest kerning issues. Like some gremlin went there and tweaked every single character with their own wrong kerning parameters! But if i click the text object, inkscape just tells me... nope... that's just a regular text block, no special kerning, not joined to any path, no ligatures, nothing weird at all.

Then if i so much as change the font, it removes all those weird tweaks, but now the font is HUGE. For example, if I imported an A4 pdf, any text i edit or add there, must be size 6 to be a normal paragraph. If i start one A4 document from scratch, the same size of text is achieved with size 18 or so.

Why it's so weird? is there any way to avoid those things and just have regular text blocks?
