Beginners' Questions When creating a closed shape with the Pen tool it shows up somewhere else!?!?! Help!

    Recently when I installed the newest version of Inkscape.exe (v.1.2.1) all was fine with the Pen tool. Then I thought color wasn't working because every time I would close the shape I was making with the Pen Tool nothing was happening. I selected color for Fill and Outline and still nothing. As I moved to the right to another Artboard(Page) I then found all my missing shapes that I drew on the background.... When creating a line or a shape without closing the path it'll show up where I am drawing not when I close the shape. Anyone know how or why this happens? Thanks for the help!

    ok... that's different.

    Before proceeding further, reset the preferences and restart Inkscape.
