I have an eps file from Shutterstock with vector images of devices (attached). I am trying to manually select and copy only the monitor and move it to a new Inkscape file OR export it with a transparent background so that I can add an image to the monitor. I managed to do it a few months ago (please see attached screenshot of the finished figure in PowerPoint) but I have been experiencing extreme brain fog after the traumatic loss of my father and I am not able to figure out what I did. Unfortunately, I lost the original/successful Inkscape project (likely unsaved file and crashed computer) in which believe that I managed to manually select, copy, and paste the monitor for editing. I can't for the life of me figure it out. I can get the square parts of the monitor to copy and paste, but the stand does not remain intact, or I am not able to deselect the pixels around the curves (please see attached screenshot of copied and pasted monitor with messed up stand).
I am using version: Inkscape 1.1.1 (3bf5ae0d25, 2021-09-20)
I don't know why Shutterstock sells stuff in this shape. Not very user friendly. It takes a lot of jerking around to get the checkerboard out of the images and the shadows are tossed.
Anyway, I've attached an Inkscape file with the objects, hopefully they will be more useful.
Thank you! Any advice how I can work around this in the future? I download a lot of files from Shutterstock. Can I resave it in a different format? I tried exporting as a .png but it doesn't work.
If you can find PNG files with transparency, those may work well for your designs, but not all the creators who license through Shutterstock provide them.
SVG files would likely be best, for working in Inkscape.
Also, I figured out how I got the majority of the image out of the original doc and into a new doc mostly intact (lost the highlights, as you said. I selected all and ungrouped and then I was able to move the monitor mostly intact and add an image.

Thanks again for your help!
This file opens easily in Illustrator, but other programs seem to have the checkers issue.
Even the Illustrator folks have issues with some Shutterstock files. https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/shutterstock-images-and-transparent-backgrounds-help-please/td-p/8888470
It depends greatly on the contributor/creator.

Ok, understood. Thank you!
