Hi, I've had a few svg projects for a client and in about 3 of them inkscape crashed (which led to recovery files with the date format in the file).
I thought all was well and kept using them because each time the SW crashed I was in the middle of working and had few designs already there.
Now, I just discovered while the svg files work ok in cricut and silhouette machines, the files which crashed at least one can't be read in browsers (when the SVG file is open there be it edge, firefox, etc). Both text and images drawn or even objects or paths..
I've attached a file which:
1. is a new svg file (i.e. I started a new inkscape file)
2. then copied a text design from one of the crashed files (the top text)
3. then made a new text in the new file (using the text tool) then just replicating the fonts (this is the bottom text).
If you open the svg in ms edge you'll notice the top text can't be seen. Not sure if it is there or not. But, the bottom text comes out okay which is what happens if inkscape doesnt crash while the SVG is being created.
Hope someone can help fix this. I don't want to repeat all the designs in the 3 files done wherein inkscape crashed. There's tons of them.
A couple of things. If select all then use Filters>Remove Filters ( bottom of menu ).
That should solve the visibility problem.
As for the miss-positioning, you are at the mercy of whichever fonts the end user has installed.
If the font is missing a substitution will be made and it may look different in different programs as they will probably substitute whatever they guess at or have set as a fallback font.
I do not have 'mama' or 'KleponIjo' on my windows 10 pro system.
Path>Object to path will solve this, but the text will no longer be editable. So do not save over the orginal.
Agree with @inklinea, I'd ensure there are no filters on any objects when composing for cricut. The filters are the likely source of crashes, as well as visibility in browsers.
Thanks so much inklinea & Tyler, saved me a week or so of work to redo the designs from the copies.
Am still pissed off at inkscape though because it's always embarrassing to clients when things like this happen. I can accept it if it's my fault but this felt like inkscape hit me with a low blow.
Still have a few days of regrouping and zipping files into different folders. What a bummer.
