When I open the document properties, I can choose the page format from a predefined list. I use envelopes whose size is not in the list. How can I create a new format for my envelope type and add it to this list? Thank you in advance. Bests Regards, Jean-Daniel
OK, thanks for the tip. I had to change my language from French to English to have the menu "Save Template". A small annoying bug for those who do not use the English language for Inkscape.
Isn´t the menu entry not translated into your system language like something: "Enregistrer le modèle"? Comment puis-je savoir dans quelle langue fonctionne ton système d'exploitation ?
I have defined several envelope types in my print manager: Long Envelope: 220 × 110 mm (W × H) which corresponds to the "DL Envelope (110 × 220 mm)" format. Short envelope: 162 × 114 mm (W × H). With Adobe Illustrator, which I really want to give up, I manage to print my two types of envelopes correctly. With Inkscape, I have no problem printing the long envelopes in "DL Envelope (110 × 220 mm)" format by choosing the right size in the print dialog, however for the short envelopes, the printing (at least the print preview) is done on A4 paper even though I chose the paper size corresponding to my short envelopes. I can't choose the appropriate print size for them. I edited the file "pages.csv" to add my format as kindly indicated by @Aero (many thanks), that allows me to choose it in the document properties. The display of the document corresponds well to this choice. However, it's on A4 (despite my choice in the printer preferences) that it wants to print in the print preview unlike the "DL Envelope (110 × 220 mm)" format which prints correctly. There must be another file to modify, but which one?
Yes, it's correct. But in the preview, paper printer format is set to A4 despite my choice of short envelope: 162 × 114 mm (W × H) in the printer dialog.
Revert my preferences to French (France), I now have the menu "Enregistrer un modèle" : Save as template.
My preferences file come from Inkscape 0.9 and was maybe not up to date. Changing language two times resolve this problem. Sorry for the noise about that.
On macOS we never ever got a printer driver access through Inkscape. I´m in the need of printing mirrored images for a later film process - and I can´t (I know I can mirror in Inkscape but that´s not the same). So mostly save as PDF and print from a decent PDF viewer.
I can´t tell for other OSs than macOS, what I use since 1987. But with Inkscape I never have seen the printer driver to set up features. It prints - no question - but not via driver of my printer. I have no clue why this is the way it is. And I was told Linux works with 99% of all Laserprinters - whatever that means. Has it poster-print, Range&Scale, Document Layout: Single/Tiled/nUp, Bleed&Marks,Media List by 20 different Materials, Layout: Border, Pages per Sheet, Long/Short edge binding, Booklet, Scale to fit Paper Size, Pin Printing, Watermarking to name a few?

Sorry for the low visibility. Put in full screen to see the details better. Here is what happens for the long envelopes: https://transfert.free.fr/7wc80B. You can see that the printer paper size is "DL Env". The preview is correct. Moreover, when I launch Inkscape, in the dialog box and I look at the Print tab, I find "DL Envelope 220 × 110 mm", which corresponds to my long envelopes. But, I can't find and can't create a Print format: 162 × 114 mm (W × H) that would fit my short envelopes.
Here is for the short envelope format: https://transfert.free.fr/M21wgO As you can see in the preview, the printer paper size is "A4", despite my choice. So, I don't know how to create this print format. I looked in the Inkscape tree, but I did not find a file to adapt for this format. The file "pages.csv" contains my choices.
I used URLs because of lack of space to import my videos into the comments.
My printer is not especially new: Canon Pixma iP4950, but I have the latest driver for it. And, when I use the same short envelope format with Adobe Illustrator, the printing is correct.
Hi,

Go File->Save Template… - give name etc. and To open go File: New from Template… - find your template and open.

Français (France)
Menu, Edit -> Preferences -> System. Open the User config folder. Edit the comma separated text file pages.csv using your preferred editor.

How should I know in first place and that you don´t know what "Save as Template" is in your own language? 🤔
I have defined several envelope types in my print manager:
Long Envelope: 220 × 110 mm (W × H) which corresponds to the "DL Envelope (110 × 220 mm)" format.

@Polygon
You should not know. It's maybe an annoying bug
You´ll get a print preview from inside Inkscape of your document? Is that correct?
Yes, it's correct. But in the preview, paper printer format is set to A4 despite my choice of short envelope: 162 × 114 mm (W × H) in the printer dialog.
And I show, it's really A4 preview seeing my drawing.
The preview come with the Canon driver

Revert my preferences to French (France), I now have the menu "Enregistrer un modèle" : Save as template.

But my printing problem is still there.
Using Inkview, I got the good design for my file
On macOS we never ever got a printer driver access through Inkscape. I´m in the need of printing mirrored images for a later film process - and I can´t (I know I can mirror in Inkscape but that´s not the same). So mostly save as PDF and print from a decent PDF viewer.
Thanks, @Poligon. It works like a charm, but need another step to get a good result.

Inkscape v1.1.1, Linux Mint 20.3 (Running on iMac hardware)
Nothing available on macOS. I have no clue why this is. Printer setup on macOS in general is the easiest thing you can think of.
RdH:

End of story methinks.
Running Gimp? Does print work there?
Gimp seems not to want my short envelope paper size 162 × 114 mm (W × H). Print on A4 paper.

As you can see in the preview, the printer paper size is "A4", despite my choice.

@TylerDurden same GTK issue.
@polygon, not the total end of story, as teams are working on GTK for Mac... but not much Inkscape devs can do on their end.
@JDT, the issue may lie within the printer driver. I'd check for the latest from the printer manufacturer.
@TylerDurden
My printer is not especially new: Canon Pixma iP4950, but I have the latest driver for it.
And, when I use the same short envelope format with Adobe Illustrator, the printing is correct.
