Hi, I'm super new to using inkscape and frankly have to google how to do everything computer wise so keep it very simple for me. I have a windows based machine with 8.1 on it. I was using 92.3.4 version I think and I needed to reinstall the program so I uninstalled the program from program files and attempted to install it the newer 1.0 version using the exe and msi versions on different attempts but end up with the same result. Hubby who's and IT guy said there's an issue with the installer. on the exe download when it starts to download a box pops up which shows the AUTHORS on the file name and says abort, retry or continue It does this for each file name if you try to continue. On the msi download it gets through part of the download then says I need to contact my system administrator as I don't have permissions. I am the system admin on this computer. My husband tried and got the same result. Any help to get this or the older version downloaded? I'm happy to go back to the old version but not sure where to look. See newbie.... Thanks for the help.
Seriously, thousands of users have downloaded v1.0, and tens of thousands of users have downloaded v.92.xx (possibly hundreds of thousands).
I'm running v.92.2 on Win8.1 as my daily driver. I have 1.0 on two Linux machines. My shop has a dozen Win10 machines running v.92.2.
The installer is not the issue.
If you tried this a couple days ago, there was a global internet outage that may have interrupted downloads and ISP caches. You may need to clear you machine cache and reinstall a freshly downloaded msi installer. Your Win 8.1 could be 32 or 64 bit... ensure you download the correct version.
Yes @TylerDurden I tried to download the correct version. I did my due diligence in making sure all files related to the older version was off my system before trying to download the new one. I said what issues I had encounter, however you felt it more important to be sarcastic, rude and unhelpful. Its hard to believe that you are a moderator when it seems more important to you to insult people verses trying to help them. BTW the IT guy figured it out guess he's a tad more helpful and definitely smarter than you.

Fire the IT guy.

The Microsoft Store version of Inkscape was recently automatically updated from 0.92.4 to 1.0 on a couple of Windows 10 Pro computers here.
This is not an option for Win 8.1?
Not in my experience.

I look forward to reading a comprehensive bug report.
