Beginners' Questions Missing Dialog Windows, Nothing docked & DocProp won't dock.

I've installed the latest update and I'm still having these problems.

When I open Inkscape all my docked dialogs are missing (I have my setup saved in the "default.svg" file in the templates folder, so this is not the problem).  When I try to open the dialog nothing happens.  When I am able to see them (intermittently, but seldom), they will only float.

I used to be able to dock my Document Properties dialog and now it won't dock anymore, either - it will only float.

Is anyone else having problems like this?  Any suggestions?

The default.svg pertains to new documents, the Preferences pertains to the program settings.

I know this - I was just trying to answer questions that I might see coming, but I also have my canvas set up just like I like it and saved as the default.svg so I don't have to open what I want each time or use the options in the Preferences for the window geometry.  I don't want this part to change with those settings.

My preferences are already set to dockable.  My problem is that if and when I'm able to get a dialog to pop up (hit and miss) it won't dock.  They all float.   I've never had this problem before

Also, when I compare my preferences to yours it's different.  Your MISCELLANEOUS has a different option than I have.  ??

    1. Describe your OS & version, the version of Inkscape and the installer you used.

    Windows 10 v18363

    Inkscape 1.0.1 (3bc2e813f5, 2020-09-07)

I used the windows installer package - this was happening before the newest update and continued after I installed it

My problem is that if and when I'm able to get a dialog to pop up (hit and miss) it won't dock.

The most common reason for this, is dragging the dialog by the OS title bar, not the smaller Inkscape title bar.

That said, I have seen some wonkiness in the docking with Mac OS

Here's a video - I'm not pulling on the wrong bar, although I have no idea what you mean by a title bar for the OS (??), either way this will show you.  When I open the Clone menu (for example) it will dock and stay there.  When I open the other menus they won't dock.  They will minimize and stay to the right in the margin, but that's not what I want or what I used to have.  I am lucky in that the dialogs will even open.  For the last couple weeks I couldn't get them to even show up, then all of a sudden they started showing again.

Here's a video - I'm not pulling on the wrong bar...

Thank you for the video. Perfect.
The OS title bar is for the window, the Inkscape title bar is just below.

Holy cow!  I WAS pulling the wrong bar - I'm so sorry!  I had no idea those were 2 different things.   Thank you so much.

One last Q - in your original pic your preference options differed from mine.  Why is that?  Yours is on the left, mine on the right...

The extra option might not be seen in the Windows versions.
