Hi - I'm trying to remove the green background from the attached inkscape file, but unlike other eps files I've downloaded from Vecteezy, this one has the background constructed in chunks. If I try to remove the background or change the fill, that also removes part of the phone image, which I want to keep.(Is it layers? Haven't learned those yet).

This raster image sampler seems just a preview of an actually vector graphic so you need to mask/clip away what you donΒ΄t want.
What works here is this: Group everything - use fill bucket on "Blue" hue - fill - select all and go Object->Clip->Set inverse:
