I have been using inkscape for 18 months or so and know my way around fairly well but this is my first time on the forum. My question is as follows..
Last week I was working away. I right clicked on an object and then left clicked on 'fill and stroke' but the fill and stoke menu didn't pop up. I tried different ways...Object, fill and stroke on the top menu. I tried Shift+control+f. I couldn't get the menu up
Next I closed and reopened the programme, then restarted my computer, then disinstalled and reinstalled the newest version of the programme. Nothing worked.
It turns out you can't make much without this menu! Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated,
Hi Jon, Well, that is a bummer. Maybe, just maybe... it is hidden behind your main window? We've seen that before with other windows that had disappeared. Try making the main window smaller and look behind it.
If that doesn't work, which version of Inkscape do you use and on what system?
Thanks for your suggestions. It isn't hiding behind the main window no. When it started happening I was running a version that was 18 months old. I can't tell you exactly which because I uninstalled it. I have reinstalled that latest version - 0.92.4 and it is still not working.
My computer is running Windows 10 on a 64-bit version. I had a Windows update fairly recently but I've had the problem with inkscape for longer than that. It is really hard to work around not having that tab so any suggestions, I'd be very grateful!
Try deleting your preferences file, it'll create a new one.ย Close and restart inkscape. You can save a copy of it in a safe place if uneasy about doing that.
Hello everyone Iโm having the same problem as Jon, the only problem is Iโm not computer type person. I hate to ask this canย you tell me exactly what I need to do to get it to work? Thanks for your help

Hi Jon,
Well, that is a bummer. Maybe, just maybe... it is hidden behind your main window?
We've seen that before with other windows that had disappeared.
Try making the main window smaller and look behind it.
If that doesn't work, which version of Inkscape do you use and on what system?
Also, if the computer has been used for multi-monitor setup, it can be offscreen.
And, requently, dialogs are iconized on the right side of the screen.

Normally it is here...
Thanks Flamingo Lady. Deleting the preferences file has fixed it. I can draw again!
Many thanks all, Jon
Gladย to hear it. Can you tell I've had to do that for many crazy things, when all else fails, Haha.
As you can see in the screenshot, it is iconized on the right side of the docking area.
