Hi, where the dialog says Filename, after the word Filename and before the open-folder icon, type in the file name for your project, for example:
MyPicture.png
and this will export the file as MyPicture.png to the working directory, or, you can add a path to the filename, for example, if on windows, something like:
I have the same problem. The Filename field is greyed out, read-only, can't be edited. The file icon to the right of it isn't clickable. In the batch export tab, I can choose the file name, but no file is created anywhere when I try to export.
I have the same, I'm unable to specify the filename.
I'm using Inkscape 1.3.2 running from a snap on Ubuntu. The snap is called Inkscape 1.3.1 (9b9bdc1480, 2023-11-25, custom)
Yes, there is a version number discrepancy, it seems to be uncertain if it's 1.3.1 or 1.3.2 but I'm more interested in why I'm unable to specify the export filename.
I have the same problem, running Inkscape 1.3.2 ( or `Inkscape 1.3.1 (9b9bdc1480, 2023-11-25, custom)`) on Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS (installed via the Snap Store).
The suggestion from @TylerDurden to install Inkscape 1.3 direct from a repository managed by Inkscape sounds logical. I haven't tried this yet, my reasons to hesitate are as follows:
1) The snap I'm using is also packaged and published by Inkscape 2) Both the snap and the package in Inkscape's PPE are dated the same 2023-11-25 3) I'm a big fan of the isolation you get from running an application in a container, be it a Snap or a Flatpak.
Tyler's suggestion would mean running Inkscape without the confines of a snap imposed container, maybe this would make the issue go away ?
I previously raised topics in this forum relating to the location of export files: https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/file-export-target-directory-confusion/#c64327 https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/file-export-unwanted-filename-prefix-and-suffix/#c64330 Perhaps work has been happening in this area ?
So far this forum has 4 people who are seeing this issue, only two of us have stated their Inkscape version and operating system, both of us are using the same Snap.
Hello @opalflo10 and @anna_podds what Inkscape version and operating system are you using when you see this issue?
at first it's not nice sending us around with "A similiar discussion ..." and nowhere is a solution.
I'm using Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and Inkscape 1.3.1 (9b9bdc1480, 2023-11-25, custom) installed via Software and it's a snap version.
I can confirm, that it is not possible to edit existing or fill in a new path to export a file by just clicking on the space beside the word File Name. It's also not possible to change the folder by clicking on the folder symbol.
It would be great to offer us a workaround or a solution.
Thank you very much and best regards from Vienna, Austria!
Today I just upgraded to the latest Ubuntu LTS version and the previous Inkscape was removed. I installed the latest version from the software repository (snap package) and this problems comes up. So I can confirm I experience the issue as well. I tried several times, even ran the program with sudo with no results.
I expect this has something to do with permission. I tried running inkscape in interactive shell but still got some 'Permission denied' messages.
Both threads appear to have a solution if you want to install Inkscape from an Inkscape repository. My preferred solution would be for Inkscape to publish an updated Snap which fixes the problem.
The other thread refers to a newer snap dated 2023-12-05, no mention of where it came from. Sadly it doesn't solve the problem.
I can confirm that this is still an issue with the snap version (Ubuntu 24.04, Inkscape 1.3.2). The solution by Tyler Durden works. Remove snap and install with apt.
can someone help me, to explain step by step, and what should i do for this problem

Linux users,
I'd try using the ppa installer instead of the snap. https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.3/gnulinux/ubuntu/ppa/dl/

I just download the Appimage file from the official page (https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.3.2/gnulinux/appimage/dl/)
That solved it for now. I really was in a hurry to export a file today .,..

Thank you, I took thr Appimage and now everything works fine!

same thing happen maybe there is a backend rce attack in snap store of inkscape version there, i now dont trust the snap store.
AFAIK, the Inkscape snaps are added by the Inkscape devs, so malware in Inkscape is not likely.
The Inkscape issue is permissions related and will probably be addressed in the upcoming release.
This is still an issue, the snap version should be removed until otherwise. What good is an editor if you can't even save.
I can confirm that this is still an issue with the snap version (Ubuntu 24.04, Inkscape 1.3.2). The solution by Tyler Durden works. Remove snap and install with apt.
