I followed a tutorial exactly, and the bezier envelope option is showing under modify path as it should be, however jotting happens when I click on it. No pop up box or error message, it's as if I didn't click on anything. Any advice? BTW, I am very new, 2 weeks into using inkscape. Thanks.
Just in case lattice deformation doesn't work out sounds like you might be on Inkscape 92 as in 1.2 the Bezier Envelope extension doesn't show up in that location. Think you might be talking about possibly the Clever Someday video. If so make note of new procedure in 1.2.
As an alternative ... when using the bezier envelope extension, look at the link below, which I posted a few weeks ago. (Using Windows 10.)
While the link shows steps that work for previous Inkscape versions, I tested the same "steps" using version 1.21. And the steps shared do NOT work as expected/needed in that version.
Still, you may find these steps useful. (You can even have multiple Inkscape versions on the same computer, as long as you have properly set up the portable zip (7z) files in individual locations.)
Be sure the files for the bezier envelope (the inx and py files in the zip file) are pasted into the right extensions folder.
Review the link below for details and the zipped files.
Also, it may us to help you if you describe in more detail what you are hoping to accomplish in using this extension. There might be an easier or better way to proceed, if you share more specific details and possibly graphic files.
(Such as ... I have "this" and want to achieve "this".)

i know this isn't super helpful, but I would suggest to use the lattice deformation in the path effects menu. i find to work much better.
Thank you. I will try that out and see if that gives me the effect I'm looking for.
