    HELP!!!

Hi, just found the Path Effects -> Offset in trying to figure out designs for inlays.  Kerf!!!   Little booger!

Okay, the red outline is the original image.  The blue is the negative offset. Image 2 is the settings used.

Notice that two nodes have a weird hook.  I do not know how this happens and cannot resolve it.

Have you already tried another „Join:“ type than „Miter“?

If you still have this issue, you could try the stroke to path method :

    • duplicate the path you want to offset, give this duplicate a stroke width equal to twice the offset you want.
    • do path > stroke to path (Ctrl + Alt + C) then path > break apart (Ctrl + Shift + K) : assuming your path is closed*, this should lead to two paths : remove the one corresponding to the outset and keep the one corresponding to the inset.

    * with an open path, you have, before breaking apart, you have to select the nodes of the extremities and remove the segments between (Ctrl + Alt + BackSpace)

BTW : for a CNC use, remember to flatten LPE (they won't be dealt by any other software, AFAIK)

Yes, I have tried the other types and the results are not what we need.   This affect only occurs when we reduce the offset (using a negative offset).  Positive offsets are fine.   Instead of Miter, I used the first Extrapolated option and have less hook now, but still not good enough.

Also, with this investigation to determine why this is happening, I turned on the "handles" of each path:   original and then negative offset.

Very interesting, but still do not know why this is happening:

    Original Line handles

    Negative offset line handles

Can we have this portion at least as Inkscape SVG please?

Please change these 2 nodes to "smooth nodes" or delete them at all as they are not necessary for the curvature:

Wow!   I very much appreciate you checking out that drawing.  Removing those two nodes changed everything.

Okay, I have learned through this process how to cut out jigs (or inlay hosts) and the inlay objects that are very tight.

    Salute to all of you!!!!!
