I am new to Inkscape and was trying to make a vectorization of a drawing I did.
I was wondering if it is possible to make a partial path around a stroke of a close path as demoed in this pic.
My objective was to limit the strock on a area and still have the fill to fill the space where I need so I dont have to make a duplicate shape for the stroke alone.
Strokes can have dashes (color/space/color/...) in various sequences, but not varying width. So the stroke could appear partial, but probably not the taper.
One way to achieve that in a step by step guide (wall of text alert but with a handy diagram as well):
Make the original shape
Duplicate that shape (ctrl+D) and drag the duplicate to the side
Remove the fill of the duplicate
Go into Node Mode (N),
Make extra nodes where the line needs to end by double clicking on the path.
Select the top nodes by dragging around them
Delete those top nodes (Delete)
Select the two end nodes (Shift + click or drag around)
Delete the path segment between them by using the "Delete segment between two non-endpoints nodes" button that you will find in the top bar
Go to selection mode by hitting "S"
With the line selected go to Path > Path Effects (or hit Ctrl + &)
In the path effects panel on the right side hit the + button to add an effect
This will open a window called Live Path Effects Selector
In the search bar search for "taper"
Select the taper effect
The taper effect is now applied to the path, feel free to play with the settings (most importantly are probably Stroke Width, Start Offset and End Offset) to get the effect to your liking
Select the original shape and remove the stroke (if it has one)
Toggle snapping on by clicking the magent icon in the top right (or hitting Shift + 5)
Select the Tapered stroke we made and drag it onto the original shape (it should snap)

Then ignoring the taper out of the example. How could the partial stroke effect be done?
I just need the name of the feature to search it. I don't want to take anyone's time overly on it.

Hope this helps

To customize, look at the xml of a dashed stroke.
