Does anyone know how to use the Displacement Map effect in the Filter editor? Or know how to get anything close to the Photoshop counterpart?
You plug the input you want to distort in the first slot,
and plug the "map" into the second slot.
If you just plug in the original image to both slots it won't bring a useful effect.
Also if you use the same channel for both x and y -which will result in a diagonal distortion.
Most common use is to plug a noise into the map -generated by a turbulence filter primitive.
Don't know which ps counterpart you are referring to.
If you plug a custom image as a map into the filter it can distort to anything within a 100 px range.
Knowing what image to use for the map is another question.
Detailed background info here: https://dl.fullcirclemagazine.org/issue113_en.pdf A bit dated, but elements may still apply.
