Never heard of this case so far. Here it´s: After auto tracing the dialog is still active until I close it - the resulting "group" is active from what the Status bar tells me. I can move to side and select the bitmap. But there´s no Layer because I didn´t established one so far. All taken place in "root" regarding the Status bar. In menu->Object->Objects… I can select bitmap and delete. This won´t work for you either? If not is there something locked? - not that it makes sense. What does Status bar indicates?
OK - I feel like an idiot - I was trying to move/delete while the trace dialog was still open. After I closed the dialog, all was well. Thanks for you response. That I'm still trying to get use to the 1.1 version is my only excuse.
Beyond the Basics Delete & drag stops working after tracing a bitmap

Inkscape 1.1, windows 10 - 20H2
I import a bit map - at this point I can delete the bitmap and re-import, delete, etc.
auto-trace the bitmap, drag the vector image off the bitmap
after I do this, i cannot not delete the bitmap with the delete key or on the layer panel
I can not drag either image using the mouse, I can move both using the move panel.
this is 100% repeatable
What I have tried:
resetting preferences
repair install
uninstall/reinstall
downloading and building the latest Inkscape from the repository - same problem
Any suggestions? If no help here I'll log a bug with a screen capture video.
