I have a bitmap traced image that I made.  Sometimes when the node tool is selected and I move my mouse tool over the drawing, it highlights all the paths momentarily in yellow.  What is it trying to tell me???

Nothing special, it's an option you can modify in inkscape preferences > tools > node tool : "Show temporary path outline" ("When hovering a path, briefly flashes its outline").
