I have this vaguely S-shaped spine vector that I am trying to make more S-shaped so that it will fit within the body of a snake. So I created a path with the pen tool that is roughly the shape I want. Then I copied it, selected my spine (already converted from object to path) and then try and "link path to clipboard." But instead of linking, the spine then disappears. Coming back only if I control-z.
Perhaps related is that the spine is vertical, so that if try and "bend path edit on canvas" manually it doesn't work because the green line is horizontal, not letting me adjust it along its long axis. Yet if I rotate my spine horizontal, Inkscape can tell, and the green line is then made vertical, just to spite me. Please help. Thank you!
I`d rotate the „spine“ with the Node tool instead the Selector tool which will intrduce a transorm matrix which might be the hurdle here. If that´s still not working feel free to share a screenshot or example file.
PS.: Perhaps LPE Pattern Along Path will work better in your case by using a straight pattern instead of an already curvy one:
Sorry for taking a while to get back here, had a number of small emergencies come up that pulled me away from my project. But it seems you understand what I'm trying to do. I'm still having problems. I'm wondering if it is because my spine example isn't straight enough to begin with? Or because I ungrouped the parts of what was a trace bitmap of an image. I'm really hoping I can understand what I'm doing as I have a few other spine examples I want to try and see how they look as an S in the snake, tuning "pinefit" to "SpineFit in a cool way.
