Inkscape in some instances differs in operation from the Online Manual. This mismatch can be confusing to a new user--is it lack of user knowledge or lack of Manual updating causing the problem. As a new user, I was thankful for the online Manual but wondered why it was not updated for the 2017 release (over two years now) of v0.92. Can anyone tell me when if ever the manual will be updated?
Unfortunately, most of us have no clue when or if the manual will ever be updated. Possibly only the author himself knows. (The author is an Inkscape developer.)
The community has had some discussions, off and on, about creating a new manual, which is edited by the community. (The current manual belongs to that developer, so no one else can edit it, but the project uses it as the official manual.) However at the moment, I don't think anything is happening about a new manual. Hopefully it won't be much longer before we can get that project started.
The Online Manual takes great pains to insert at many topics "Warning This section not yet updated for Inkscape v0.92." Someone has spent a lot of time adding those cautionary words. I suggest that a new Online Manual be released with at least the new Inkscape 1.0 version. The FLOSS Manuals: Inkscape looks promising.
