@brynn Should we have a German subforum?

    Info von der Download-Seite:

For parallel installations of different versions use the compressed .7z archives. Make sure to extract them into an empty folder (we recommend the free software 7-Zip to extract) and create program shortcuts manually if required.

    Reicht das?

Du kannst übrigens auch von https://inkscape.org/de/release/inkscape-master/?latest=1 herunterladen (das ist noch etwas neuer als die Beta und sollte noch näher an der finalen version 1.0 sein)

As long as we have people who are willing to be here on a regular basis, to answer questions, as far as I'm concerned, we can have any number of different languages!

But I would not like to set up all kind of different languages, if we don't know whether anyone can help them or not.

Just let me know what to set up.  Or if I'm not here, Martin could do it.

@brynn There are forum descriptions available, I think? We could probably use those to tell people that it's possible that they need to wait a bit longer, and that they might miss out on info from other experienced users if they post their question in their own language, vs. in English. I'm hoping there won't be many who will use it under those circumstances :) Only those who really don't speak any English. I'd check on German questions at least once a week, probably more often.

Hhmm, those descriptions have very little space for text, and are not very obvious, in my opinion.  But we could use a sticky topic to explain that.  (Title:  "Please read this before posting" but in that language.)

Why don't we start with observing "demand and supply" (so to speak)?  Here we see someone posting in German with not one but 2 members answering.  So that says to me it would make sense to add one for German.  But we've had a couple of others....I don't remember what language they were, but some members had tried to translate and answered in English.  No one ever answered in those other languages.

To me, it doesn't make sense to set up boards for languages, when we don't even know if we have anyone who can answer them.  Maybe once we have one different language, people will start volunteering to answer other languages?

Oh good, perfect example.  New topic in some other language, that I'm about to approve....although I have to translate it first, to make sure it's not spam!  Let's see if anyone answers in that language, whatever it is (I'm not sure).

    Edit

    Nevermind - it's spam

    DANKE THANKS

Ich habe es gefunden, warum ich das vorher nicht gefunden hatte weiß ich nicht.

An die Programmierer, sieht gut aus sehr auf geräumt.

    Gruß

@brynn Thanks, yes, that sounds like a good plan to me. Would you establish a new board for 'International Inkscapers' (or something like that) with a forum called 'German' or 'German language forum' or something along those lines?

    brynn brynn @brynn

Yes I'll be glad to do it.  But I'm thinking that the name of the board, and well, everything, should be in the relevant language.  There's no reason for English speakers to be able to read it, except out of curiosity.  I could use google or bing to translate, but it would probably be better coming from a native speaker.

Can you please post the title here?  Then I'll paste it in.  I'm thinking "Support in German".  Does that sound ok?  Then in the description, I'll repeat that, plus write it in English, for the curious.

I guess that sticky topic should also be  in German.  You could either post what you mentioned earlier, here, and I'll paste it in.  Or you could make the sticky topic yourself, after I make the new board.

Whatever way is easiest for you.

Makes sense, Brynn, thank you :) Then it would be 'Support auf Deutsch'. Yes, I can make that sticky post.

While you're at it - would it at all be possible to have a built in language translator in the moderation area or somewhere on the forum?  I've tried copying and pasting a few things, but I can't figure out what some of the languages are.  The idea being that the first person (or moderator if new) could translate it and paste it as a response, to make it easier for others to reply.

If I understand the current trend for this website, only open source things can be used.  I doubt there are any open source translators.  But if someone finds one, and it's at least as good as google or bing, then for sure, let's do it!

Ok Moini, I made the new section and the new board.  At the moment, they are at the bottom of the list.  I hope Martin can move them up to just below the Support section.  I don't see a way to do that myself, but maybe he can.

Thank you, Brynn! I think that's a nice addition to this forum.
