I copy a graphic image from the internet, and paste it into Inkscape (0.92.4). The image has an "alpha" channel,so the background can be transparent.
If I cut-n-paste the image using Chrome or Edge, it has a hard black background. If I use FireFox it has a transparent background. If I use any browser and save the image (a PNG file) and then use File-Import and accept all defaults it has a transparent background.
Because I already have done lots of work with images that have incorrectly a black background, I was looking for where I possibly could turn the alpha channel off/on (or learn to live with that the information was lost)
File with the SAME image 1) inserted viaChrome-cut-n-paste, 2) SaveImage in the browser and File-Import in Inkscape.
Well, the apparent conclusion is that what Chrome or Edge place in the clipboard is not correct, whilst Firefox does it right. And "save image to file" does not use the clipboard so it works fine for all three browsers.
However, this is not a browser forum, but an Inkscape one. With a "destroyed" alpha-channel there is nothing to fix in the work I have done, but now I am curious, for other future work : Is there a dialogbox for image objects where some manipulation of the channels is possible ? (I am aware that Inkscape is NOT an image editing program) I am only thinking of turning the Alpha on/off - what some other programs call an opaque/transparent toggle.

Image836.png has an unused alpha-channel
Image847.png has alpha channel intact.
Can´t say why this happend.
Thank you for a quick reply !

I don´t think there´s anything to toggle on/off in this file.
Some editing capabilities are under Extensions->Raster->etc
