This is my first time messing around with vectors. I have a project I am working on that required me toĀ vectorizeĀ the image but I am struggling a bit.
Basically I am trying toĀ recolorĀ a map, here is an exemple (https://imgur.com/KClAFQu).I have done it using a bitmap imageĀ so you can probably guess why I am trying to learn to use vectors.
TheĀ vectorizationĀ partĀ is doneĀ already and now I want to fill the spaces with the respective colors (black and white) however this task would be easier if I could edit parts of the map separately cutting and pasting on different layers.
Here is where IĀ encounteredĀ the problem. I belive my vector is just one big mess of nodes and segments grouped into one big object and I don'tĀ quiteĀ understand how to separate them so I can edit them separately.
I have already tried theĀ ungroupĀ tool but it doesn't seen to work.
Any advice would be much appreciated
Below are some images so you can might understand better.
It“s a bit hard to tell what is vector and what is not from the pictures. If this is a result of "Trace Bitmap" you might want to try Path->Break apart which separates the contour from the "white space" from which you can then change the colors. Let“s see how it goes.
I am Roy Torley.Ā I am writing a book/tutorial series for people who want to learn basic graphic design using Inkscape.Ā I understand that you want to fill each state with its own color.Ā If I have this understanding wrong, please forgive me.Ā Tutorial 14A might provide you with insight and techniques to resolve your problem.Ā You'll find it at:
This tutorial series is less of a tutorial series and more of a book.Ā If you're a fan of reading, then this book might help you out, especially since it is directed at those who are just starting out.
